Spotify’s Daily Wellness: The Tool That Will Change Your Quarantine Days

Youmna El Halabi

I don’t know about you guys, but the most important thing that has kept me going throughout this strenuous year has been music.

To be fair, music has always been my chosen method of healing. No matter what I am going through, verses and melodies were always there to offer comfort, hope, or just a companion in dark times.

And that is exactly what Spotify has been striving to give this past year.

If you’re someone with a Spotify account and have ventured into the “Made for you” playlist, you may have noticed a new icon on your feed. “The Daily Wellness” one; a playlist curated for you, by the Spotify team—“a mix of music and wellness to guide you through your entire day.”

Daily Wellness is made up of meditation podcasts, inspirational quotes and sayings, acoustic rendition of songs, calming music and many more. And the best part? It is all based on what you like. As we all know, healing and wellness is very personal; and so it’s only natural that the music that will be used to instill peace of mind would be something you would enjoy.

For instance, if one were to venture into my Daily Wellness playlist, you would find a nice mix of music podcasts discussing the lives of musicians, Kodaline, Ed Sheeran and Florence and the Machine tracks, with quite a nice bouquet of classic Rock songs. Needless to say, the smile never falters when I’m taking a listen.

The playlist aspires all the necessary components one uses to calm themselves down: breathing techniques, inspirational quotes, mindfulness skills, guided meditation, body awareness, and gratitude practice.

During these dark times, when a pandemic is consuming our lives and uncertainty has been a constant for over a year now, it helps to have the kind of music that can offer us a thimble of what we are missing: company.
