Courtney Barnett is back with her second solo album Tell Me How You Really Feel with the same vibe as her first album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit truthful lyrics and all the things we love. The album starts off with the track Hopefulessness, this song reminds you of how modern the world is now with the lyric “take your broken heart, turn it into art.” While starting off with a lyric such as “no one is born to hate, we learn it somewhere along the way.” Which could really resonate with a lot going on right now, towards the middle of the song theres a type of guitar noise that I have no idea how to describe, but its wicked and reminds me of The Doors. Barnett has a way of saying how she feels, and making you feel like you get it. City Looks Pretty is one of those tracks that got me to think, but also reminds me of the stresses of life and how we try and get to where we want to be, while being sad/mad, but also having our friends treat us like we aren't all that. Charity reminded me of a song thats kind of like a letter, in some type of way whether it be to yourself, or to someone else. “You’re so subservient I a make myself sick. Are you listening?” This line really caught my eye, with the usage of the word subservient and really just wanting the person you are trying to talk to just listen. Barnett’s lyrics are eye catching, especially with the wording. In Need A Little Time, with the lyric “your inner most lecherous.” Is something I did not except, her usage of certain words and how they form a song is absolutely amazing, something that some artists couldn’t do. Nameless, Faceless and I’m Not Your Mother, I’m Not Your Bitch are similar songs, and hold similar vibes. The attitude that seeps through both songs and lyrics are the best. Then we have, Crippling Self Doubt And A General Lack Of Self Confidence the track where Barnett got the album title from is self explanatory. Being around certain people or a person, can really have an affect on our great friends self doubt and self confidence. But is that how this person really feels? We’ll probably never know. Help Yourself is like the best friend of Crippling Self Doubt and A General Lack Of Self Confidence, because we should all really help ourselves. “Humble but hungry, need validation.” You know where this is going. Walkin’ On Eggshells is the slowest song on the album, its also very poetic in a sense. “No use drinking from a leaking cup. You know what I mean? Not really, it seems.” The last song on the album is Sunday Roast, is my favorite song on the album. Being able to be around that person or someone you care about deeply, and never wanting them to leave, a song that reminds me of my best friend. Beautifully written lyrics, “ you make your choice, I’m here for you.”
